But EVERYTHING Causes Cancer!

I often encounter the argument that ‘everything causes cancer,’ which somehow justifies eating almost anything, since you’re bound to get cancer from ‘something’ anyway.   By this line of reasoning, of course, you might as well shoot heroin or drink gasoline, if that’s your fancy, since cancer is just around the corner whether you’re sipping Jack Daniels or chugging wheatgrass.  Obviously, this logic is absurd, since some things definitely cause cancer, while others do not.  Broccoli does not cause cancer; cigarettes certainly do.  The smart money says that if you want to avoid getting cancer, you should stick to foods and beverages which are non-carcinogenic, and shun those with warning labels.
